Cisco Mobile Transport over Packet Solution Enables Efficient High-Speed Connectivity Needed to Deliver Increasing Amounts of 3G and 4G Mobile Internet Traffic
SAN JOSE, Calif., February 17, 2009 - Cisco® today announced, following a successful and extensive evaluation, that IP Networks, Inc. (IPN) is implementing a Cisco Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) architecture featuring the Cisco Mobile Transport over Packet (MToP) solution. This approach gives IPN the scale, resiliency and efficiency needed to deliver incrementally increasing amounts of 3G and 4G mobile IP traffic for operators, which is expected to increase 66 fold between 2008 and 2013, according to Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) Mobile Forecast for 2008-2013.
Cisco's IP NGN technologies and expertise transform service providers into experience providers enabling them to deliver the Connected Life. Those experience providers, like IPN, are adding new revenue opportunities with a reduced time to market by delivering new and differentiated voice, video, data and mobility services.
IPN's Cisco IP Radio Access Network (RAN) managed solution enables mobile operators to provide mobile broadband cellular services to their own customers while reducing their costs of doing business.
Facts:
- IPN is migrating its infrastructure to provide multi-homing Carrier Ethernet from the newly launched Cisco Mobile Wireless Router (MWR) 2941-DC located at the cell site and transport mobile traffic from several operators over a single, converged IP network. Mobile traffic from the cell site will be routed via the Cisco 7600 Series routers enabled to support both Pseudowires over Ethernet (PWE3) and native IP packets.
- The Cisco MToP solution is able to support code division multiple access (CDMA) and global system for mobile communications (GSM)-based radio technologies and next-generation all-IP radios.
- Transporting this mobile traffic across IPN's core network are the Cisco 7600 Series router and Cisco ONS 15454 optical switching platforms. This design offers the highest resiliency with generous bandwidth from cell site through the core of a network. These capabilities are enabled with the help of the new Cisco Ethernet Services Plus (ES+) line card for the Cisco 7600 Series routers.
- IPN will be able to quickly expand its network using zero-touch deployment techniques enabled by the Cisco CNS Configuration Engine (CNS-CE). As a premier managed service provider, IPN selected the Cisco IP-service level agreement (SLA) suite and Mobile Wireless Transport Management (MWTM) system to ensure their customers of consistently high-quality service and reliability.
- Meeting the mission-critical networking requirements of Fortune 100 corporations, large enterprises, government agencies and other service providers, IPN is extending its highly resilient services to Tier-1 mobile operators in the United States
Supporting Quotes:
- "Value propositions of our all-optical networks include service flexibility and scalability," said Gary George, president of IP Networks. "We provide service level agreement-guaranteed IP radio access network transport using pseudowires over carrier Ethernet and native IP. An important aspect in mobile transport networks is maintaining accurate synchronization signals to minimize interference among sites and to ensure optimal inter-cell handover performance. Cisco and Brilliant Telecommunications' network timing solutions make that happen."
- "As a global leader in providing IP-based networking solutions, Cisco has demonstrated that our IP NGN Carrier Ethernet Design and Mobile Transport over Packet solutions offer operators a cost-effective and seamless migration path to Ethernet backhaul networks, while capitalizing on the cost and efficiencies of IP/Ethernet as bandwidth demands increase," said Larry Lang, vice president and general manager of services and mobility business unit, Cisco. "The Cisco MToP solution is helping to transform mobile operator business models by providing both data offload and reducing operating expenses of the network."

Innovative solution will create a mutually profitable digital bridge between fixed and mobile Service Providers and the Digital Marketing industry
SAN FRANCISCO, California, USA - February 12, 2009 - Feeva Technology Inc. announced today that it has integrated its addressable digital advertising application with the Cisco® 7600 Series Router to substantively improve performance for the entire online content and advertising value chain.
Telecommunications and advertising industries as well as consumers benefit from this integrated solution: Advertisers gain access to previously unavailable audience metrics, improving the performance of their marketing campaigns using Feeva's Real-Time Market Segmentation data. Carriers enjoy new revenue opportunities based on the value they add to the advertising ecosystem from the existing assets in their communications networks. Consumers benefit from more relevant online advertising with complete opt-in/out control and without sacrificing privacy levels.
"The solution from Feeva integrated with Cisco's IP Next-Generation Network architecture provides Service Providers an elegant way to leverage their fixed and mobile broadband network assets to monetize new partnerships within the online advertising ecosystem", said Larry Lang, vice president and general manager of the Services and Mobility Business Unit at Cisco.
Feeva's "Media-EnablerTM" solution creates unmatched efficiency for Online Publishers, Advertising Networks, Advertising Agencies and Advertisers, and an entirely new revenue stream for Service Providers. Combined with the scalability and performance of Cisco AdControl software, an application enabled on Cisco's high performance Service Application Module for IP (SAMI) line card on the Cisco 7600 Series Router, the solution allows Service Providers to reliably enable advertising revenues, eliminating the need for alternative, lower performance solutions that inspect web requests and inject advertisements.
"This collaboration between Feeva and Cisco creates a 'digital bridge' between the advertising and telecommunications industries that achieves a new benchmark of addressability for online advertising" said Rishad Tobaccowala, Chief Executive Officer of Denuo, the Futures Unit of Publicis. "Advertisers can now rely on Internet service providers for uniquely reliable demographic data, similar to the data from traditional media channels such as TV and print."
The solution also offers broad protection of consumer privacy. Feeva does not utilize any technology that gains access to any behavioral or personally identifiable information.
Richard Purcell, Chief Executive Officer of the Corporate Privacy Group, former Privacy Officer of Microsoft, advisor to industry and governments on privacy technology and policy: "Protection of consumer privacy is fundamental to any solution that uses any data for targeting of online advertising. Feeva relies solely on existing foundation data in service provider networks, and never handles any personally identifiable information."
"Together, Cisco and Feeva have created a highly scalable platform which will allow carriers to generate new revenues from their existing assets" said Nitin J. Shah, Feeva's Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder. "We look forward to integrating with fixed and mobile Service Providers and delivering a portfolio of Real Time Market Segmentation data to the digital advertising industry."
The solution from Feeva and Cisco will be available for demonstration at Mobile World Congress 2009 in the Cisco showcase at the Palau Moxo in Barcelona. For more information on the Mobile World Congress, please visit: http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le21/le34/MWC/2009/index.html.

Solution providers adumbrate Cisco Systems’ abstraction for the next-generation abstracts centermost will chase a agnate accepting ambit to VoIP, and are gearing up for an access of acceptance rates.
Cisco’s Unified Bolt access aims to accommodate the abstracts centermost added absolutely into absolute arrangement infrastructure, says Doug Gourlay, administrator of Abstracts Centermost Band-aid Marketing at Cisco.
The aim, Gourlay says, is to imitate Cisco’s “the arrangement is the platform” access to accumulation disparate networks.
“We’ve taken accumulator networks and server networks and pulled them calm into a unified fabric. Again we fabricated the arrangement basic apparatus aware. So now we accept to accompany all those calm into a unified accretion platform,” he says.
Cisco’s Unified Bolt access to networking and the abstracts centermost builds on the success the bell-ringer saw with the aggregation of articulation and abstracts networks, says Gary Middleton, administrator of achievement access and abstracts centermost networking at Dimension Data, a Cisco gold partner.
Middleton says there are abounding similarities to VoiP’s acceptance curve, in that Cisco’s access combines assorted cartage types beyond a distinct network, and initially, barter were agnostic of the business amount of the technology.
“When we talked to barter about articulation on the abstracts network, we met with a lot of attrition and we had to authorize relationships with articulation specialists who were absolutely altered than the networking guys we were acclimated to ambidextrous with,” he says.
As barter started seeing the amount of VoIP, “the networking bodies started demography albatross for articulation on the abstracts network, and again we accomplished an access in adoption,” says Middleton. He expects the aforementioned archetypal to administer as Cisco converges abstracts centermost networks with articulation and abstracts and accumulator networks.
“We anticipate we’ll see slower acceptance up front, but again accelerated acceptance already the amount is apparent to our customers,” Middleton says. The access of virtualization will advice advance that adoption, he adds, as accretion virtualization capabilities impacts customers’ networks and performance.
“A lot of audience don’t apprehend that the arrangement has to be a axiological allotment of any abstracts centermost accomplishing because of the added cartage that’s activity into and out of the abstracts center,” says Middleton.
