Not surprisingly, moving DSL transmission technology forward beyond the state-of-the-art requires finding solutions to new problems. The technical challenges for VDSL are similar to those for ADSL – notably how to achieve high capacity transmission in the presence of high frequency noise and very steep losses in the twisted wire pairs which were originally intended only for low frequency voice telephony.
